My co-curator Marianne and I put up a new show by Stephen Eichhorn at Lula last night. Below are a couple of pictures, there's lots more about the show at lula's walls.

The theme for the week is comics drawn on photographs of stuff

I recently did the cover for Smoke Signal 3. Smoke Signal is a comics paper that Gabriel Fowler of Desert Island in Brooklyn puts out. The issue debuts at the Brooklyn Comics Festival this weekend. If you're not going to be in New York you should be able to get one here.

The Op Shop, Calling All Angels

I was recently asked to smear some paint around on the window of a new Home Gallery project called The Op Shop (short for Opportunity Shop, which apparently is what they call thrift stores in Australia). I probably should just wait to post about this, since the photos I got are all a little...uh...inadequate. It was late, I was tired. I'll post better pictures when I have them, but I wanted to give Laura and Andrew's new project some props here ASAP. So here are some (mostly) blurred and dim pictures of a flood drawing, with trees and birds, with and without flash. Note the nice shadows made by light from the streetlights passing through the drawings branches.

If the above is being posted a bit too soon, the following is making it onto my little blog a bit late. A show called Calling All Angels, at Form and Content Gallery, curated by Camille Gage, just came down in Minneapolis. I had several pieces in it and it received some very nice coverage in local press and as part of an essay on angels in popular culture on Quodlibetica. Here are a few pictures of that:

The images in that last photo are a couple of prints I recently made. They are the cover images from Des Chiens, D'leau and Mitologias, the French and Spanish language collections of Dogs and Water and Sisyphus that came out in '05 or so. I sold a few at the show but have several more (they were both done in editions of 25) which I'm selling via Paypal (ndrs@hotmail.com, $95.ooUS each, 19.5" x 24" and 21" x 21", respectively. Click on image below for better views).

The basic image is originally from a drawing I did during an art history class at the Art Institute in 2000 (see Mome, June 2006). My Spanish Publisher had seen it in some zine or other that I'd done and suggested it as the cover for the collection. Without thinking about it particularly I put a pink robe over the originally nude angel. He asked me why and it got me thinking, so when the French edition came around I decided to redo the image. So now there are two.

Paper Blog Update Supplemental Postcard Set Sticker Pack

I put together this mini-comic/postcard set thing a month or two ago. It's available in various places around the country, but it's also available via the mails, at Quimby's. Oh, and word on the street is that Big Questions #13 is in stores too. You can find the cover down below somewhere, but I'm also about 20 pages in on #14. Here's a page from that.

"if you love stuff, you're going to hate this."

My friend Nick just sent me a link that led to several beautiful and incredibly disturbing images like this with the above subject line. Click here to find out what you're looking at. Jordan's website is here. Intolerable Beauty and In Katrina's Wake are both pretty amazing.

New Show at Home Gallery

There's a show at Home Gallery, here in Chicago, opening this Saturday, October 24. The artists are Casey Roberts and Deedee Davis, two painters from Indianapolis. It's worth seeing. You should come.

Two Drawings

I did two commissions over the summer. The first is a reprise of a drawing that was in the Home Gallery show in April. On the deer-with-tires theme.

The second was a drawing based, by request, on the Neil Young song Human Highway. I consider it a collaboration. Thanks Neil. Click on image to get a better look.

Big Questions #13

Big Questions #13 is done. The plan is to have copies available for the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco next month (though the issue probably won't be in stores until November or December). But these things are unpredictable. The issue is 48 pages, twice as long as the last one. To the best of my abilities to estimate such things, which have in the past proven woeful, there are two more issues worth of story left to draw. The current issue also has french flaps on the cover with portraits of 16 of the main characters and some explanation of the story so far. I did this in issue number eight as well, but thought it might be time for a refresher as we approach the story's climax in the next two issues. Here are two pages from the present book:

Lula's Walls

Marianne and I recently started a blog for the art at Lula. I'll probably continue to post an image or two from new shows here, but actual info can be found at Lula's Walls. Current show features photographer Jeremy Bolen (above) and printer and book artist Kim Jae Young (below).
